DESCRIPTION: |
The
architectural style exhibited by this residence is commonly
referred to by neighbors as "Alamo Revival"
(see Spanish Baroque Mode). This designation arises from
the sculptured parapet walls which are evocative of the
Spanish Baroque Mode. Further characteristics of this
style are the use of smooth stucco and tiled visor roofs
while the paired brackets, the continuous sill band at
the second level and the geometric window groups and design
are Progressive influences typical of many of the other
houses on Swiss Avenue. Yet, unlike the others discussed,
this residence is unabashedly asymmetrical. This, combined
with the stylized foliage relief ornament, reveals the
designer's free improvisation within the regional mode. |
