Two
story 4-Square/Prairie w/Mission detials. Brown brick.
Composition roof. Hip roof; arched dormer w/wings; paired
brackets. Full width covered veranda w/corbeled brick
wall; heavy piers w/curved wing wall at steps; parapet
w/iron rail over entry. Beveled glass on entry door, side
lights and elliptical fan light over door. Veranda roof
extends over porte cochere on left. Recessed two story
wing on right. |

Although built for P.A. Ritter, this house was purchased by
the Harris family in 1921. W.R. Harris, Sr. gained
statewide recognition as the successful prosecuting attorney
in the impeachment trial of Governor James ("Pa")
Ferguson. W.R. Harris, Jr., his sister Dorothy Harris
Savage, and her husband Wallace Savage, were long time
residents. Wallace Savage was mayor pro tem of Dallas
from 1948 to 1950 and served as mayor from 1950 to
1952. Dorothy Savage was the founder and former president
of Dallas' Historic Preservation League (now known
as Preservation Dallas). |
