ORIGINAL
DESCRIPTION: |
This
Progressive residence is capped by a hipped roof and deep
overhanging eaves. The porch terminating at a continuous
sill line and supporting integral urns shows concern for
the Progressive Mode. Although placed within low arched
openings, the main first floor windows and front door
grouping all exhibit the same concern for Progressive
Mode detailing. This is particularly evident in the plaid
motif on the underside of the wide overhanging eaves which
is similar o that on 4946 Swiss Avenue. The triple brackets
are effective in keeping the weighty tile roof from appearing
to set too heavily on the body of the house. |
OF
INTEREST: |
It is believed that A.C. Adkins kept polo ponies at his
home and that Will Rogers was a frequent houseguest
(and also a polo enthusiast). Mr. Adkinsê daughter, Virginia
Adkins, married O.R. Reed of the wrecking company. |
